Carolyn Lund is currently an Associate Clinical Professor in the School of Nursing at the University of California in San Francisco. She was the Neonatal Clinical Specialist in the NICU and ECMO Coordinator at UCSF Benioff Children's Hospital Oakland for over 40 years, serving as clinical expert, consultant, case management as well as original research, and has contributed to knowledge of neonatal skin in the areas of skin maturation, skin integrity and adhesive damage, and bathing effects on newborn’s skin barrier function and the skin microbiome.

She was the science team leader for the development of an evidence-based neonatal skin care guideline for the Association of Women’s Health, Obstetrics and Neonatal Nurses and the National Association of Neonatal Nurses. The Neonatal Skin Care Guideline was then implemented and evaluated in 51 nurseries in the United States in 2001 in an evidence-based practice project involving 2820 newborns. Revisions of the guideline were subsequently published in 2007, 2013 and 2018.

Carolyn has contributed numerous articles and book chapters on neonatal skin care, as well as vascular access, care of surgical neonates, and care of the ELBW infant, and plans to continue contributing to neonatal nursing, patients and families in these areas.
