Shantia McCoy-Jones, MSN, RN, CRNP, CWCN is the Department of Veterans Affairs/Veterans Health Administration (VA/VHA) Office of Nursing Service (ONS), Pressure Injury Prevention & Management (PIP) Clinical Nurse Advisor. She was awarded the 2018 Veteran Affairs Secretary’s Award for Nursing Excellence in Nursing and Advancement of Nursing Programs, Registered Nurse-Expanded Role. Shantia is field based at the Corporal Michael J. Crescenz VA Medical Center in Philadelphia, PA where she serves as the Wound/Education Specialist. As the Clinical Nurse Advisor for the PIP, Shantia leads experts from diverse specialties from across the VA who represent all aspects of PI prevention and management at all levels of nursing and direct point of care. She provides expert consultation throughout the VA system on PI prevention and management, practice, and education; and skin/wound management. Shantia’s projects include: the VA PI Prevention Directive; Subject Matter Expert (SME) for Electronic Health Record Modernization/Acute Care Nursing Council member (skin/wound documentation), VA Pressure Ulcer Resource (VA PUR) mobile apps; the VA national Skin and Wound Webinar Series and a host of national skin and wound programs.
