Pressure Ulcer Prevention and Safe Patient Handling: Can they be Combined?

Jul 15, 2015 1:00pm ‐ Jul 15, 2015 2:00pm

Session Description:
Patients at risk for pressure ulcers are often the same patients for whom safe patient handling is needed. A momentary choice of whether to move a patient alone or wait for help can lead to serious injury. However, the majority of injuries are repeated microtears of the soft tissue leading to long term pain and even disability. This session will discuss how wise choices in equipment can permit the patient to be moved and reduce harm to you and your staff.

Objectives:
At the end of this webinar, the participants will be able to:

  1. Discuss how pressure ulcer prevention can be accomplished without leading repeated microtrauma to the care givers

This webinar is supported by an educational grant from Sage Products. The WOCN Society does not endorse specific products or services.

Speaker(s):
  • Joyce M. Black, PhD, RN, CWCN, FAAN, Professor, College of Nursing, University of Nebraska Medical Center

Objectives:
At the end of this webinar, the participants will be able to:

  1. List 3 presentations of medical adhesive related skin injury (MARSI)
  2. Discuss 5 of the Best Practice statements pertaining to the prevention of medical adhesive related skin injury

Collaboration between PT & WOC Nurses on Managing Risk to the Lower Extremity

May 7, 2015 1:00pm ‐ May 7, 2015 2:00pm

Session Description:

Collaboration is essential as we seek optimal patient outcomes and appropriate product selection. Physical therapists and WOC nurses each bring a unique skill set when considering pressure redistribution methods to prevent pressure ulceration and lower extremity complications. Join this webinar to hear two interdisciplinary leaders discuss the benefits of collaboration and the latest on the prevention of heel pressure ulcers!

Objectives:
At the end of this webinar, the participants will be able to:

  1. Understand how the pathophysiology of pressure ulcer development can lead to other complications and functional impairments of the lower extremity.
  2. Discuss research dynamics for the prevention of heel ulcers and plantar flexion contractures.

This webinar is supported by an educational grant from Sage Products. The WOCN Society does not endorse specific products or services.

Speaker(s):
