Session Description:
Individuals may experience high stomal output for several reasons. This may result in readmission with dehydration and/or kidney injury. Preventing readmission and preserving kidney function in these patients requires accurate I and O recording –of stool and urine. The purpose of this webinar is to provide the clinician with tools to develop plans for pharmacological management to support nutrition and hydration management (discussed in the August 14 Webinar) to aid with output management to prevent dehydration, to prevent kidney injury, and to improve the quality of life for these patients.

Learning Objectives:
Upon successful completion of this educational program, the learner should be able to:

  • Apply step-by-step Pharmacological Interventions to decrease the output from a high output stoma
  • Discuss the risk and benefits of select medications used for management of high stoma output
