One thing that most practicing clinicians agree upon is that modern healthcare has become more litigious. The legal fallout from litigation pertaining to patient care can range from being sued for medical malpractice or negligence to being reported to a state regulatory board for action upon one’s license. The best protection for the practicing clinician is the quality of patient care documentation. This session focuses on legal documentation issues and associated aspects of career development supporting clinicians’ legal defensibility.

Upon successful completion of this educational program, the learner should be able to:

  1. Analyze critical aspects of legal documentation issues
  2. Describe processes within the legal system including depositions
  3. Delineate clinician activities supporting legal defensibility including board certification continuing education and professional resume appearance
