Session Description:
Pediatric ostomy care poses many unique challenges to parents, caregivers and wound, ostomy and continence nurses who do not have regular contact with the pediatric ostomy population. This session will discuss the common clinical issues encountered when caring for an infant or child with an ostomy. The session will also discuss the social and emotional challenges that face this population. Throughout the session the unique stories from nurses, children and their families will be told through Joanna Burgess who has been a long term ostomate since the age of three.

Learning Objectives:

  • The participant will be inspired to use the Pediatric Ostomy Complications: Best Practice for Clinicians when caring for their pediatric patients as they will have a better understanding of the document and what it contains.
