Program Overview: The Wound, Ostomy, and Continence Nurses Society™ (WOCN®), in collaboration with the American Society of Colon and Rectal Surgeons (ASCRS) and the American Urological Association (AUA) developed an educational guide to assist clinicians in selecting an effective stoma site. This presentation will review the key points to consider, highlight what is new since the 2015 stoma positioning statement, and review newly-available resources to support clinicians preparing patients for ostomy-creating surgery.

Learning Outcome: Following this activity, learners will indicate [in the post activity evaluation] their intention to apply knowledge of the basics of pre-operative stoma site marking, report increased confidence in pre-operative stoma-related patient education, and set intentions to have coaching conversations with patients about the lifestyle and cultural implications of stoma-related surgery.

The live webinar was supported by an educational grant from Hollister. The WOCN® Society does not endorse specific products and services.
