Program Overview:
Dehydration is a very common problem encountered by a person with a fecal diversion, specifically the person with a small bowel diversion and ranks high as a reason for hospital readmission. This session will review the suspected etiologies of high output via a fecal diversion and the systemic, dietary and pouching system management interventions to allow the attendee to develop a plan of care for the patient with high ostomy output.

Learning Objectives:
Upon successful completion of this educational program, the learner should be able to:

  1. List three etiologies that contribute to high ostomy output.
  2. Discuss the interventions to develop a plan of care for the patient with high ostomy output.
