The focus of this presentation topic will be the care of the neonatal/pediatric care for the pt with an ostomy. This interactive presentation will be of particular interest for those of us who called to see these patients but are certainly not experts with this pt population.
Identify three stomas that are typical in the neonatal/pediatric population
Describe how the body of the rectus site can cause issues with infants’ stomas
Recognize expectation gaps and how to manage them
Demonstrate management options for mucus fistulas, umbilical cords and adjacent obstacles such as feeding tubes and incisions
List options for teaching staff, parents and children
