Description

Understanding ethnic skin variations is vital to the wound care practitioner. Recognizing normal and abnormal dermatological variants unique to noncaucasian skin is important for early intervention, proper management and care planning. This session will provide the learner with an understanding of thorough skin assessment relevant for pigmented skin, in addition to specific wound management considerations.

Learning Objectives:

  • Describe main physiologic differences in noncaucasian skin
  • Discuss appropriate skin assessment techniques specific to noncaucasian skin
  • Evaluate unique normal and abnormal dermatological variants in noncaucasian skin
