Description

This session will review the risk factors of peristomal hernia development and treatment of the same in the patient with a fecal and/or urinary stoma. The creation of a stoma will be presented to illustrate the inherent risk of a peristomal hernia formation. The options for treatment will be outlined and outcomes of peristomal hernia will be included.

Objectives:

  1. Describe the contributing factors to the development of a peristomal hernia
  2. List three interventions for the treatment of a patient with a peristomal hernia
