Description

This Advanced Practice/Pharmacology session will focus on understanding pain pathophysiology and management of acute wound pain in relation to procedures, as well as chronic pain management. The attendee will be able to describe proper assessment principles to identify the type of pain experienced by the patient and the provision of appropriate medications to manage pain. The attendee will receive pharmacology credits for this session.

Learning Objectives:

  • Identify different types of pain.
  • Describe use of 3 long-acting and 4 short-acting opioids and basic equianalgesic dosing; 3 agents to treat neuropathic pain in wound management; 2 possible nerve block options; 2 non-pharmacologic measures.
