Description

The principles of proper wound bed preparation are fundamental essentials to ensure good wound healing outcomes. Effective debridement may be one of the most important aspects of wound bed preparation, however, what type of debridement is best? This session will describe the benefits of appropriate wound bed preparation, and focus on a debate between a surgeon and a WOCN on what type of debridement is most appropriate in a variety of clinical scenarios.

Learning Objectives:

  • Describe benefits of non-surgical approaches to achieve debridement of devitalized tissue.
  • Discuss patient population unlikely to be candidate for surgical /excisional debridement.

Speaker(s):

  • Dot Weir, RN, CWCN, COCN, CWS, Wound Healing Staff, Catholic Health System, Buffalo, NY
  • Terry Treadwell, MD, FACS, Medical Director, Insitute for Advanced Wound Care
