Helping Teens Process the Ostomy Event

Dec 19, 2018 12:00pm ‐ Dec 19, 2018 1:00pm

Standard: Free

Description

Session Description:
This session presents a theoretical framework that was developed from a qualitative study with teens (13-18 years of age) examining how teens process the event of having an ostomy. The theory sheds light on how teens process the experience of having an ostomy and how healthcare providers can help the teen move thru the process to get back to their desired “normal” state.

Learning Objective:

  • The learner will be able to verbalize one concept in the theoretical framework and identify one strategy for use when working with teens processing the event of having an ostomy.

This rebroadcast is supported by an educational grant from Hollister Incorporated. The WOCN Society does not endorse specific products and services.

Speaker(s):

  • Lynn D. Mohr, PhD, APRN, PCNS-BC, CPN, Assistant Professor/Associate Chair Women, Children, Family Nursing, Rush University College of Nursing

Great comment to only teach them the basics because they will zone out. I would like to have heard more about this. I could go into such detail and it would be awesome to have a guideline of day 1, 2, 3... to present information.
