Although providers receive much technical training related to their clinical field, little guidance is given on how to communicate with patients, particularly those with challenging behaviors. This session provides clinicians with communication strategies and de-escalation skills to navigate challenging encounters with patients. Particular attention is paid to empathy and its role in effective communication. Learner Outcome:
Participants will be able to describe the role of empathy in effective communication and de-escalation.
