Removal of indwelling urinary catheters to reduce catheter associated urinary tract infections is a challenge for both the incontinent patient and managing skin integrity. This presentation provides an overview of the process of evaluation and implementation of a female external urinary collector in a multiple hospital system. Overcoming barriers and issues with the device are discussed and interdisciplinary collaborative efforts are highlighted.
Learning Outcome: Following this activity, learners will be able report their intention to incorporate the use of an external female incontinence collector into a catheter associated urinary tract infection (CAUTI) prevention protocol and be able to provide education in its use to staff.
