Historically referred to as bladder dysfunction, the term lower urinary tract (LUT) dysfunction recognizes the multiple structures that act together to ensure bladder filling/storage along with regular emptying via micturition. This session reviews pharmacologic management of LUT dysfunction including failure of urine storage (urinary incontinence, overactive bladder), incomplete emptying/urinary retention (bladder outlet obstruction or underactive detrusor function). Emphasis will be placed on integration of pharmacologic management into a holistic management program that includes complementary management such as behavioral interventions.
