Program Overview
This course provides information to understand the anatomy and pathophysiology of GI disease processes that require ostomy surgery in infants and children. Using case studies of patients with complex abdominal conditions, evidence-based plans of care will be shared including strategies to improve consistency of care and setting realistic expectations for bedside staff. Additionally, nutrition and pharmacological strategies to facilitate physical growth in the acute care setting, and beyond, will be discussed.

Learning Outcome: Following this activity, the learner will report increased confidence in understanding anomalies of the gastrointestinal tract requiring surgeries for the pediatric population including implications for neonatal and pediatric ostomy care.
