Dr. Mary Arnold Long obtained an Enterostomal Therapy certificate from Abbott-Northwestern Hospital in Minneapolis, MN. Mary has 35 years of nursing experience. She achieved CWOCN certification in 1994 & advanced practice CWOCN certification in 2009. She is also board certified as a certified rehabilitation registered nurse (CRRN) & as an adult health clinical nurse specialist (ACNS-BC). In 2016 she was awarded her doctorate in nursing from Otterbein University.
Mary has several presentations & publications to her credit. In 2012, Dr. Arnold Long and her team published Incontinence Associated Dermatitis in A Long Term Acute Care Facility (https://journals.lww.com/jwocnonline/Abstract/2012/05000/Incontinence_Associated_Dermatitis_in_a_Long_term.15.aspx), the first and only study of IAD prevalence and incidence in long term acute care. In 2015, she participated in the international Global IAD Expert Panel that developed the Best Practice Principles for IAD (https://www.woundsinternational.com/media/other-res... ). Dr. Arnold Long and her partners have been collecting IAD and ITD incidence and prevalence data and hope to publish that information in the near future.
Awarded the College of Mount St. Joseph Alumni Leadership Award in 2004 and the Mid East Region WOCN “CWOCN Nurse of the Year” award in 2008, in 2015 Mary was honored with a “Palmetto Gold” award, recognizing her as one of the 100 best nurses in South Carolina. She has served the National Wound, Ostomy and Continence Nurses Society as Board Director, Secretary and National Conference Planning Committee Member. She practices full scope WOC Nursing inpatient, as well as seeing ostomy outpatients at Roper Hospital in Charleston, SC.
