Samuel Mandell MD, MPH

Dr. Sam Mandell is an Associate Professor in the Department of Surgery at UT Southwestern Medical Center. He specializes in trauma surgery, surgical critical care, and comprehensive care of burn-injured patients.

Dr. Mandell earned his medical degree at the University of Massachusetts Medical School and completed a residency in general surgery at the University of Washington School of Medicine. He received advanced training through a trauma research fellowship, a burn surgery fellowship, and a surgical critical care fellowship at Harborview Medical Center. He also holds a Master of Public Health in epidemiology from UW. Dr. Mandell serves as Burn Section Chief and Director of the Parkland Regional Burn Center. He leads the national Burn Care Quality Platform Dashboard Work Group and serves on several national committees, including the American Burn Association Quality and Burn Registry Committee. In addition, he is a Surgical Education and Self-Assessment Program (SESAP) 18 advanced author.

Dr. Mandell is a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons and the American Association for the Surgery of Trauma, and he is a member of the American Burn Association and the Society of Critical Care Medicine.

He has delivered scores of lectures and presentations, published dozens of academic articles, and contributed to numerous books.
