Dr. Dimitri Beeckman RN, BSc, MSc, PhD

Prof. Dr. Dimitri Beeckman obtained a Bachelor in Nursing in 2003, a Master in Nursing and Midwifery in 2006, and a Master in Education in 2007 at Ghent University, Belgium. In 2011 he obtained his PhD in Social Health Sciences (Medical Social Sciences) with a thesis about pressure ulcer prevention and management of Incontinence- Associated Dermatitis (IAD). In 2010, he became a lecturer at the Florence Nightingale School of Nursing & Midwifery at King’s College London, UK. Currently, he works as a Professor in Nursing Science at the University Centre of Nursing and Midwifery at Ghent University, Belgium. Since 2016 he is a Visiting Professor at the Faculty of Health and Medical Sciences at the University of Surrey, UK. He is the Chair of the Scientific Committee of the European Pressure Ulcer Advisory Panel and serves as a Member of the Scientific Committee of the World Union of Wound Healing Societies 2016 Conference. He is specialized in pressure ulcer prevention, healthcare education, implementation science, the development and psychometric evaluation of instruments to measure outcomes of healthcare interventions, and in testing complex healthcare interventions. He was appointed as advisor of the Belgian Federal Counsel for the Quality of Nursing Activities during the development of indicators for measuring the quality of nursing care. In 2015, he authored the Wounds International global best practice document on the management of IAD. He is Consulting Editor of the Journal of Wound, Ostomy and Continence Nursing, the Journal of Tissue Viability, as well as Associate Editor of BMC Geriatrics. Prof. Beeckman holds different Fellowships such as Sigma Theta Tau International Honor Society of Nursing and the European Academy of Nursing Science.
