Mrs. Shannon McCord RN, MS, CPNP-PC, CNS

Director of Advanced Practice Providers and Nursing Clinical Support Services, Texas Childrens Hospital

Shannon McCord is the Director of Advanced Practice Providers and Clinical Nursing Support Services at Texas Children's Hospital. She has more than 30 years of pediatric nursing experience, and has worked in variety of roles. As a board certified pediatric nurse practitioner, and maternal child Clinical Nurse Specialist. Her experience encompasses both hospital, ambulatory and private practice settings and over 20 years practicing in the wound, ostomy and continence subspecialty. She has served in numerous leadership roles over her career to include Director of Patient Care Services for the West Campus, Assistant Director of Wound, Ostomy and Continence, the Assistant Director for Women’s Services, overseeing clinical operations for the Baylor Obstetrics and Gynecology clinics.

McCord received a master’s of science in nursing as a clinical nurse specialist in maternal child nursing from Texas Women’s University in Denton, Texas and a post-graduate degree in the pediatric nurse practitioner program from the University of Texas Health Science Center in Houston. She has participated in several other educational programs including the wound, ostomy, continence nurse education program at The University of Texas, MD Anderson Cancer Center, Rice University’s Jones Graduate School of Business medical and healthcare management program, as well as the nursing research scholars and the evidence based practice and research programs at Texas Children’s Hospital.

Among her professional honors, McCord has received recognition for “Outstanding Performance in Nursing” from the Texas Nurses Association. And the Good Samaritan Nursing Excellence award, as a speaker and author, she has published articles in peer-reviewed journals and book chapters on various pediatric nursing topics to include wound, ostomy and continence nursing. Her current clinical and research interests include pediatric wound care, and advanced practice provider scope of practice.
