Paul Szotek MD

Paul Szotek is a native of Valparaiso, Indiana. He holds degrees from the Indiana University, Bloomington and the Indiana University School of Medicine. He completed an internship and General Surgery residency at the Indiana University School of Medicine in Indianapolis, Indiana. Dr.Szotek is board certified in General Surgery by the American Board of Surgery.

Dr. Szotek completed a Research Fellowship at the Pediatric Surgical Research Laboratories at Harvard/Massachusetts General Hospital, Boston, MA. During his time in Boston under the mentorship of Patricia Donahoe, MD, he performed stem cell research and had the privilege of performing and authoring the first peer reviewed publication describing and identifying ovarian cancer stem cells.

Since his return to Indiana University Health in 2012, Dr. Szotek has been an active member of the Trauma and Acute care surgery program as well as developing the abdominal wall reconstruction program. He is an active member of the American Hernia Society and is a frequent speaker on the uses of fluorescence angiography in acute care surgery. In February 2014, Dr. Szotek performed the first surgery in Indiana utilizing Google Glass technology and is developing wearable technology for use in all aspects of medicine. He will be hosting the first meeting of the International WATCH (WeArable TeChnology in Healthcare) Society in Indianapolis July 25-26.
