Linda M. Roof RN, MPH, CWOCN

Consultant, Lecturer

Linda assumed the role of Clinical Nurse Specialist WOCN Service at UCLA Medical Center in 1981. She subsequently completed the Cosler-USC Enterostomal Therapy Program in 1982. Over the course of the next 31 years the service was expanded to assume responsibility for wound and incontinence skin care, and pressure ulcer prevention and treatment throughout the UCLA Health System network. Linda provided direct oversight of Materials Management purchases of ostomy, wound, and skin care supplies, sleep surface and pressure redistribution beds and products, and participated in contract negotiations with manufacturers and purchasing groups. In addition an out-patient clinic was opened, and coverage to the Neuropsychiatric Hospital and Emergency Room was provided. She developed Standards of Care for Wound Care and Pressure Ulcer Prevention as well as Ostomy and Fistulae Care which were implemented in all settings and were used as templets for other hospitals in the community. She founded the West Los Angeles/San Fernando Valley WOC/ET Forum which has met without interruption for more than 25 years. Linda implemented teaching rounds in high-risk ICUs and developed the Wound Care Resource Nurse program to provide training, mentoring, and leadership to unit based nurses with an interest in skin and wound care. These nurses participate in their units wound care rounds, assist with pressure ulcer data collection, ensure adherence to the Standards of Care, provide unit in-services on new-products, guide practice by modeling exemplary care, and provide feedback to the WOCN Service. She has participated in new product research, written articles, co-wrote a book chapter, and spoken at national and international venues. She became a vocal, persistent, and perhaps annoying, advocate for our Service and the patients we served.
