BScN,RN Advanced Practice Nurse, Kingston General Hospital KDS Professional Consulting

I was diagnosed with ulcerative in late 2002 and received an ileostomy approximately 6 weeks after. At the age of nine, I saw an ostomy as the best route to gain control of my health and regain my quality of life. To this day, it is the best decision I have ever made. Shortly after surgery I began mentoring children in similar situations, attended Ostomy Canadas Youth Camp in Bragg Creek Alberta. While in high school, I participated in a trek to the Base Camp of Mount Everest with the Intestinal Disease Education and Awareness Society, our goal was not to just make it to Base Camp, but to show every person out there that you can accomplish anything and that IBD and an ostomy is not a barrier to living a great life.

I have it my personal mission to advocate for individuals living with IBD and ostomies. Presently, I am working on a general surgery floor in Kingston Ont, annually volunteer at Ostomy Youth Camp, participate in patient panels, and volunteer my time with groups such as Crohns Colitis Canada and Gut Inspired.
