Mrs. Karen Lou Kennedy-Evans RN, APRN-BC, FNP

Family Nurse Practitioner, Foothills Rehabilitation Center

In 1983 I started one of the first skin and wound care teams in a 500 bed long term care (post-acute) facility. While monitoring the status of all the patients who had pressure ulcers/injuries the team noticed not all pressure ulcers/injuries presented the same and some progressed much quicker than others and some proceeded death. Those became know as the "Kennedy Terminal Ulcer." Multi-organ failure and skin failure had become concepts and the concepts of Multi-organ and Organ failure along with skin failure will be discussed.
