Dr. Sandra Bergquist-Beringer PhD, RN, CWCN

Sandra Bergquist-Beringer is a Professor in the School of Nursing at the University of Kansas Medical Center. She received her PhD in Nursing from the University of Iowa. She is also nationally certified in wound care.

Dr. Bergquist-Beringer is an expert in pressure injury and pressure injury prevention cross setting and their measurement for quality improvement purposes in the acute care setting. Dr. Bergquist-Beringer served as Pressure Ulcer/Injury Consultant for the National Database of Nursing Quality Indicators® (NDNQI®) from 2003 to 2015. In this capacity, she guided the growth of the NDNQI pressure injury indicator to include its current set of categories/stages and process indicators, managed publication of the online NDNQI Pressure Ulcer Training Program and conducted research on the topic. She has presented nationally and published widely on the topic of pressure injury in peer-reviewed journals. Recent research has focused on the relationship between wound care/other nursing certification and patient outcomes.
