Dr. Jo Ann Brooks PhD, RN, FAAN, FCCP

Dr. Brooks is a Healthcare Quality Consultant who recently retired from Indiana University Health where she was System Vice President of Quality & Safety. She currently serves as the Chair of IRB 03 for Indiana University and is thread director of the quality and safety curriculum for Indiana University School of Medicine. Her faculty appointments include IU Schools of Nursing and Medicine and Purdue University School of Nursing. Dr. Brooks currently serves on the National Quality Forum Admissions and Readmissions Steering Committee and the American Association of Medical Colleges Quality Conference Planning Committee. Her areas of expertise include healthcare quality and safety, CMS pay for performance and nonventilator hospital-acquired pneumonia. In her previous role, Dr. Brooks was responsible for oversight of quality and safety in a multi-hospital, integrated system as well as infection prevention across the state. These areas of oversight included performance improvement, external quality reporting, patient safety, national databases, and ongoing development of the governance/board’s role in quality and patient safety. She has been elected to numerous committees with the American College of Chest Physicians and has served on the board of directors of the American Association of Critical Care Nurses. She is a Fellow of the American Academy of Nursing (FAAN) and in 1998, Dr. Brooks was the first nurse to be elected Fellow of the American College of Chest Physicians.
