Neonatal Skin Integrity Nurse Practitioner, Children's Hospitals and Clinics of Minnesota

Deanna Johnson MA, APRN, NNP-BC, CWON is a neonatal advanced practice nurse with over a decade of experience caring for critically ill newborns at multiple level 3 and 4 neonatal intensive care units. She has served in leadership roles for neonatal ground and air-transport and also new graduate nurse practitioner education. After achieving certification as a wound and ostomy nurse, she now oversees hospital-acquired skin injury prevention efforts, as well as wound and ostomy care, at Children’s Hospitals and Clinics of Minnesota’s nurseries and level 4 NICU. Her primary focus has been education of medical and nursing staff on issues of skin integrity and wound care specific to the neonatal population. She regularly presents and is published in peer-reviewed journals on topics related to neonatal skin conditions. Her efforts are inspired by a passion for the newborn and premature population and she continues to strive to eradicate preventable harm in these smallest and most fragile of patients. Deanna is the mother of four and spends her free time enjoying her children and her avocation and second passion of photography.
